Payal Rohatgi: 'God is sending me to LA'

Payal Rohatgi has said that after recent casting couch and legal controversies with a number of Hindi film directors, she may relocate to the US.

The actor, who was recently seen in Dil Kabaddi opposite Irrfan Khan, responded to some of the rumours about her.

"Well, look, I felt hurt, so I acted in a certain way," she told The Times of India. "But what's really making me angry is how these directors, all men, are saying that I'm nuts, that I'm doing all this for publicity.

"I feel that God has a plan for me. That all this is part of something better that is to come my way. Lots of things are going on in my mind. I'm thinking of running off to LA."

Rohatgi, who made the transition into mainstream Hindi cinema with projects such as Corporate and 36 China Town, has recently appeared in a number of Indian reality TV shows.

The star added that - in spite of speaking out on the casting couch situation with Dibaker Bannerjee - she had received little support from her female contemporaries in Bollywood.

"Actresses in this industry do not talk to one another," she said. "No actress has called me."

Rahul’s swayamvar cheap

She usually goes with a ‘no comments’ response when enquired about Rahul Mahajan’s wedding on reality TV, but for once, Payal Rohatgi is ready to call a spade a spade. And she calls this one a “cheap show.”

“I understand reality shows are the flavour of the season, and Bigg Boss got me the kind of publicity that nothing else did. But you have to have limits to how far you can go to get what you want. This swayamvar on television looks like a very desperate bid to get money and fame,” says Payal. “The next reality show on TV will be what? A honeymoon or a child’s delivery?” she asks, apparently disgusted at the thought, and then adds, “I wouldn’t want to jeopardise my career by being part of something like this.”

That, of course, doesn’t mean that Payal has had enough of reality TV. She almost agreed to do another reality show - one being made on the backdrop of a village - but backed out later. And she’s now training her sight on Bollywood. “I know television is a strong medium today but I want to grow as a film actor,” she says. “Also, doing TV is very strenuous. It takes a toll on you. I did one show in 2008 (Bigg Boss Season 2) and spent the whole of 2009 recouping from it,” she laughs. “On the other hand, movies have their own pace and time, you know, they have more substantive roles to offer to an actor.”

And the movie she will be giving her time to requires her to get into the shoes of a television journalist. Payal doesn’t want to say too much too soon and would rather wait for the movie to go on the floor before talking about it, but she does tell us that the film is being made around 26/11 and shows “how journalists need to control their emotions even at such precarious times and yet work to secure TRPs for their channels.”

And while she doesn’t feel she needs to do too much homework - having seen enough TV journalists in her life - for this role, she does take acting seriously. And there’s reason to believe that. With some free time on hand, she has signed up for theatre workshops with Quasar Padamsee - Dolly and Alyque Padamsee’s son. “I thought it would help me improve my acting skills,” she shares.

Hot Payal Rohatgi was a man

Despite having established her name in the professional world, actress Payal Rohatgi often experiences ups and downs in her personal life.

Post regression, Payal states, “I have a very loving relationship with all in my family, except my father. After undergoing regression, I don’t blame him or myself for the distance between us anymore.

Instead, I am thankful to Imagine for giving me this opportunity through which I came across one of the reasons for my disturbed relationship with my father. I will definitely go back to Dr. Trupti Jayin to undergo further treatment in order to improve and mend my relationship with him.”

I goofed up by exposing so early in films: Payal Rohatgi

Actress Payal Rohatgi has no issues with exposing in front of the camera, but admits that early on in her career she might have shed her inhibitions for the wrong sort of films as she didn't know how "these projects would depict" her. "Today many successful actresses are seen on magazine covers and are participating in bold photo shoots. Even in movies, it's a no-holds-barred approach for so many of them, " said Rohatgi. "However, what really works for them is the fact that they are doing so in films where their male co-stars are pretty established, " Rohatgi adds. The actress has made a concerted attempt during the last three years to choose her roles with care. Rohatgi, who has also studied computer engineering, has since 2006 only been seen in relatively big budget films like Abbas-Mustan's "36 China Town", Madhur Bhandarkar's "Corporate", Priyadarshan's "Dhol" and Irrfan Khan starrer "Dil Kabaddi". However, the repertoire of films from her past includes "Tauba Tauba", "Laila - A Mystery", "Chetna - The Excitement", "Mazaa Mazaa", "Mr. 100% - The Real Player", "Men Not Allowed" and "Ek Se Mera Kya Hoga". She admits she made a mistake in her selection of roles early in her career: "My biggest goof up was to expose in women oriented films. This turned out to be a huge drawback for me as I didn't know the nuances of filmmaking at that time. I didn't know how these projects would depict me and how would they be eventually marketed." "Look at Yash Raj productions. In their films too you find skin show on a regular basis. However, what works in their favour is the fact that these scenes are aesthetically done and they know how to market their films and project their heroines, " she said. She is not against skin show but says an actor should be comfortable with it. "Come on, let's be realistic. At the end of the day every actress wants to be hot. Everyone dies to have a great body, be fit and look glamorous, " she said. Any regrets over the years gone by? "Not at all! I don't regret my initial years as these were my learning steps. For a middle class girl who didn't come from a metro, I have done well and managed to establish myself to a good extent. I have realised over a period of time that my earlier decisions were not good and I don't think there is a big deal in admitting that." "It requires a lot of guts to figure out what was going wrong in your life and find a way to fix it, " she said.

Payal Rohatgi shares her naughty side with ‘Maxim’

Payal Rohatgi who shot to fame coming out of blink and miss roles and B-grade films with ‘Big Boss 2’ has done her first ever photoshoot for leading Maxim Magazine in its latest issue. Payal is a computer engineer from L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad. Payal studied in Udgam School., Payal Rohatgi won the title of Miss Tourism World in 2001, against candidates from 65 countries. She was also a finalist at the Femina Miss India contest in 2000.

Maxim: You look smokin’ hot in your first shoot for MAXIM. So is what we see the real you?

Payal: Yes, this is definitely one of the many sides of who I am! Like the different roles that we play, this is one of those days when I decided to share my naughty side with the readers of MAXIM!

Rahul is not my boyfriend, he is my friend: Payal

Only Rahul Mahajan could get close to her, kiss her and scold her in season two of reality show "Bigg Boss", but actress Payal Rohatgi has denied any romantic involvement with him after her eviction from the show.

"Rahul is not my boyfriend, he is my friend, " Payal told over phone from Mumbai.

In August, Rahul, son of the late Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former union minister Pramod Mahajan, formally parted from his wife Shweta after a Gurgaon court passed a decree on their mutual divorce petition. His closeness with Payal was an alleged reason for the break-up.

But Payal, who was evicted from the reality show Friday, maintains that "Rahul is only a good friend".

Viewers were witness to their intimacy on "Bigg Boss" when they were assigned the task of playing volleyball in a swimming pool.

Commenting upon their physical proximity on the show, she said: "The pool was six feet deep and I'm only five feet six inches tall. I needed someone to shift me around and hold me in the pool. I was more comfortable with Rahul because I know him. We have partied and have had dinners together.

"I couldn't let others like Debojit (Saha), Ashutosh (Kaushik) and Raja (Chaudhary) come as close. After all they are men, " she said.

Payal was criticised by her inmates for her closeness to Rahul, her cat fights with item girl Sambhavna Seth, wearing a bikini on the show and constantly wearing make-up.

Sambhavna alleged that Payal is "fake" and that she used to backstab people on the show.

But Payal denies her allegations saying: "I was very neutral. I was not there to make friends for life. I just wanted to be cordial and nice to people so that we could live together in peace. So there is no question of having backstabbed anyone. It would have been so had I nominated Rahul, who is a good friend, " Payal said.

As far as being called "fake" is concerned, she said: "I was there to gain visibility for the benefit of my career. If I dabbed on make-up to look good on the show, why are people complaining?

"She (Sambhavna) has said that I used to wake up at six in the morning to touch up and then used to sleep again. But then why was this footage not shown? It would have made for a juicy shot. 'Bigg Boss' was not a house, it was a house-like situation and being an actor, I had to take care of the way I looked on screen, " Payal said.

After coming out of the "Bigg Boss" house, the actress says she is dying to pamper herself with "a manicure, pedicure and a good massage" to rejuvenate herself mentally and physically.

"I am very happy to be back in the real world. I was there to gain visibility and show the other side of personality and I have been successful in doing that. People had only seen the glamorous side of Payal Rohtagi, but now they know that I even cry, " said Payal who is now looking forward to getting some "lead roles in good films".

Payal was seen in films "Dhol" and "Corporate". In Madhur Bhandarkar's critically acclaimed "Corporate", she danced to the popular item song "O Sikander".

Now she is looking forward to her next film "Dil Kabaddi", in which she will be seen with Soha Ali Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Irrfan Khan, among others.
