Katrina finally agreed to bein a bikini

Many names, including top international ones, were considered for the coveted role of the screen queen opposite bad-boy Aamir Khan in Dhoom 3. Finally it’s Katrina Kaif, after all, who has bagged the prized part. Katrina, it must be remembered, was Yashraj, Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya’s first choice for the part. But the actress, hellbent on building on her wholesome image, had major misgivings about some of the things that the role required from her. There was the mandatory girl-in-a-bikini Dhoom shot. With her new policy of no kissing and no exposure Katrina begged off the role. Says a very reliable source, “Katrina very clearly told her dear friend Aditya Chopra that she would not be comfortable doing some of the scenes. Aditya told her she was crazy to turn down the chance of playing the Dhoom girl, and that too opposite Aamir Khan but Katrina is very clear about what she wants and doesn’t want to do on screen. And nothing could make her change her that. She suggested they look for someone else. ” The hunt for Aamir’s Dhoom girl even went international with hot global faces being considered. Incidentally a couple of A-list actresses got their publicity machinery to plant stories of being chosen for Dhoom 3. Says a source, “But the first choice, namely Katrina kept coming back to haunt the banner’s casting aspirations. They needed a girl who not only looked hot but also could look extremely homely and wholesome. A combination of Hema Malini and Zeenat Aman, that was the brief. ” Two factors made Katrina change her mind. The first was Aamir Khan. Having bagged a role with Shah Rukh Khan in Yash Chopra’s next she was keen to be paired with Aamir. And so, we believe, was Aamir. Finally there was a long and intense meeting between Katrina and Aditya Chopra just before she left for the shooting of Ek Tha Tiger in Dublin that clinched the matter. Both Katrina and Adi were in high spirits after the success of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. Says a source, “Someone said Katrina was Yashraj’s lucky mascot. To this she quipped, ‘I really don’t like being called a lucky mascot. It makes me sound like a ghodi at the derby. ’Everyone including Katrina was in the mood to see Katrina say yes to Dhoom 3. ” Apparently in the meeting Aditya convinced Katrina as to why doing Dhoom 3 at this stage of her career would take her to another level. They spoke about the packaging and the projection. And they also spoke about the scenes that bothered Katrina. Apparently the kissing and bikini scenes have been taken care of. Says a source, “The scenes that scared Katrina have not been done away with entirely. But Adi and Katrina met on a middlepath. The scenes have been now modified to the advantage of both the parties. ” With Dhoom 3 Katrina Kaif becomes the only heroine in the history of Indian cinema to do 4 back-to-back films with the Yashraj banner. Katrina remained unavailable for comment. Apparently she is using the off-shooting hours in Dublin to get fighting-fit for Dhoom 3. Martial arts and samurai sword-fighting are part of the training for the part. Go ahead Katrina. Dhoom machale.

Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone in ‘Lafangey Parindey’

20th August 2010 is all set to see one of the most anticipated releases of this year from Yash Raj films hit the screens. The film uniquely titled ‘Lafangey Parindey’ has been directed by Pradeep Sarkar and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film has Neil Nitin Mukesh as Nandu and Deepika Padukone as Pinky in the lead pair. Their roles are extremely challenging and this love story with a difference is set in the gritty streets of Mumbai.

Incidentally, director Sarkar seems so pleased with the portrayals of Deepika and Neil in the film that he has already gifted them an iPad each as a token of appreciation.

Shahid Kapoor’s film in trouble

Even as Shahid Kapoor is excited about his much-talked-about film Dil Bole Hadippa releasing next Friday, September 18, another film of his has run into trouble.The grapevine is abuzz with the news that Yash Raj Films next project starring Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma is in trouble due to disagreement between the producer and the director regarding the title of the film.

It is said that director Parmeet Sethi suggested Right Hand Man and Friends and Company for the title of the film but Aditya Chopra didn’t want them. Parmeet said that there is no fight though there might be differences in opinion. He added that he and Aditya have decided to think about the title only after the shooting of the film.

Kangana insulted at Yash Raj studios gates

We in the media all know how Yash Raj bosses are a stickler for privacy and how well guarded their huge studio premises is. Well just that we didn't know that even some Bollywood stars are no exception as Yash Raj's strict rules are being enforced on them too. Our source narrates, "On Friday morning just before the trial show of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi began at the Yash Raj Studios' preview theatre, a white Skoda drove up to the gates of the studios and began honking at the gates so that the watchman would open the gates for them. But instead, the watchman refused to open the gates and walked up to the driver. Though the watchman had clearly seen it was Kangana Ranaut sitting next to the driver's seat, he knocked on the window and asked the driver whom he wanted to meet at YRF and whom should he say has come while confirming. But then even that wasn't enough. He then left Kangana and her driver waiting at the gate for some more time till he went back to confirm the actress' appointment over the intercom." What left Kangana visibly upset was the watchman asking on the intercom to someone at the other end that whether the actress should be let in or not and also whether her car had permission to be parked in the YRF studios basement parking! Finally after a good 15-20 minutes wait at the gates, actress Kangana Ranaut was finally allowed into the YRF studio" the source concludes. We are now the wondering whether Kangana shall soon be the next starlet to join the Yash Raj bandwagon following her Fashion, co-star, Priyanka Chopra.

YRF felicitates KJo to celebrate 10 years of association with Dharma Productions

Thursday (October 23) saw the doors of the Courthouse Hotel graced by Bollywood's most successful film director Karan Johar, as he joined members of the public and media to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his Box Office smash Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and the release of his hotly anticipated film Dostana, hosted by Yash Raj Films.

The intimate and exclusive gathering allowed the invited audience to pose challenging questions to get to the heart of Karan's thoughts and ambitions. The fascinating and often revealing interview session hosted by actor and radio presenter, Ameet Chana, took guests through Karan's 10 year journey from the new boy of Bollywood to the hottest property on the other side of the camera.

It was the first time that members of the public had been given access to Karan and his frank, open and amusing answers to their questions. Visitors were given a unique insight into the man that has given global audiences such memorable films as Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and of course Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna amongst others.

Event host Ameet Chana said, "It's been an honour and a pleasure to host this celebration and to be one of the first to quiz Karan about the new film, Dostana. He is such a prestigious figure in the Bollywood film industry and it's great to finally get him in the hot seat!"

Talking about Dostana, Karan said, "Dostana was great to produce as it is a light hearted look at friendship, love and relationships of all types. Filming in a great location such as Miami inevitably leads to fun and frolics for crew and cast alike. As you know, I like my films to break barriers and create lots of discussion and debate and I hope Dostana will continue the trend."
